US Coast Guard Auxiliary - District 1NR, Flotilla 25

Our Mission

The purpose of the Coast Guard Auxiliary is to assist the Coast Guard in promoting boating safety. Specifically, we are charged with performing any function, power, duty, mission, or operation, authorized by law, except law enforcement and military operations. At Boothbay Harbor, Maine this translates into search and rescue (SAR), public education, training our members, vessel safety checks, radio watch standing, etc.

The Auxiliary Has Something for You

Operations: We assist CG Station Boothbay Harbor with search and rescue missions, environmental protection, patrolling regatta and marine events, and provide verification of private aids to navigation. We have about 15 trained coxswains and 15 trained crewmembers. Ten of our members have offered their vessels as Coast Guard Auxiliary Facilities. We need more volunteers in this area. Public Education Courses: We offer a variety of boating courses tailored to specific needs, including boat handling, aids to navigation, rules of the road, radio procedures, engines, navigation, etc. We need people who are willing to become involved in teaching courses to the public.For more information, please contact the public education training officer.
Vessel Safety Checks: Specially trained members are authorized to conduct free vessel safety checks with the consent of boat owners. The checks address appropriate safety equipment and current federal and state laws. For more information, please contact the vessel examination officer.
Member Training: We provide basic qualification, specialty, and active Coast Guard training for our members. You can become a crewman, coxswain, instructor, vessel examiner, marine dealer visitor, communications watch stander, etc. Seven advanced training courses are available: seamanship, navigation, communications, search and rescue, patrols, weather, and navigation. On the job training is available on Coast Guard vessels. Additional courses are available through the Coast Guard Institute.
Command and Staff: There are two elected and several appointed staff positions, such as; operations, communications, public education, member training etc.
